The state's total unemployment rate increased to 3.9 percent in April from the March rate of 3.6 percent, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development announced Thursday.
April's rate was almost two percentage points lower than in April 2016, when it was 3.8 percent. Oregon's rate was significantly below its year-ago rate of 5.0 percent in April 2016.
The largest loss, 3,000 jobs, was recorded in professional and business services, while declines also occurred in: trade, transportation and utilities; education and health services; manufacturing; government; and information.
Despite its lowest rate in about 12-1/2 years, the county had the highest unemployment rate in the state in April. The labor-force participation rate over the year has increased 1.5% compared to April 2016.
The state's jobs report showed OH lost more than 13,000 goods-producing jobs from March to April.
However, tight labor markets also have benefits for workers because of rising wages and ample job opportunities, Bucy added. Since April 2016, that rate has increased by 1.5 percent, according to a release from the state.
Colorado has the lowest unemployment rate in the nation and is one of three states to reach its lowest unemployment rate since the BLS' state series began in 1976. The highest unemployment rate was New Mexico at 6.7 per cent, while Alaska had the second highest at 6.6 per cent.
Labor Commissioner Lindsay Kurrle said the data show continued recovery from the economic recession that started in 2008. The state's payrolls grew at a 1.4 percent clip over the year, falling below the national average - 1.6 percent - for the first time in four years.
Both the state and local unemployment rates remained well below the national rate, which was 4.4 percent in April. Hawaii, New Hampshire, North Dakota and South Dakota each had jobless rates below 3 percent.
"I was pleased to see that Arkansas' unemployment rate has fallen to an all-time low for the fourth time in as many months".
The number of unemployed Vermonters went up slightly from March to April, from 10,600 to 10,750, even as the labor force shrank by 200.
