That's different from the origin story depicted in the Wonder Woman film, in which Wonder Woman is the biological child of Hippolyta (played in the movie by Connie Nielsen, Boss) and the god Zeus. That was followed in 2016 by "Dawn of Justice", an attempt to bring in other characters like Batman into the mix. In an interview with WBTV Brazil, Gal Gadot weighed in on the debate when asked if her version of Wonder Woman could beat Henry Cavill's Superman in a fight. Case-in-point: When I told my wife that this week's article was going to feature a movie called Captain Underpants, she laughed at the idea of a movie with that title. We root for her, from her days learning to fight under General Antiope (Robin Wright) right up to her final confrontation with Ares. Wonder Woman is guilty of the same crime.
But when the separatist compound must accommodate an interloper - Steve Trevor, fished out of the sea by Diana after his plane goes down - any hopes that Wonder Woman will sustain its appealing misandry are soon dashed.
The excellent chemistry between the cast ensures these moments provide rewarding insights into Diana's world and help her become a relatable, 3-dimensional character rather than simply The Immortal Superhero Princess of Ass-Kickery. That says it all when it comes to the odds against women in the film industry.
Lebanon's government is seeking to ban the new Wonder Woman movie because its lead actress is Israeli, although a formal request for a ban has yet to be received.
And multiple critics noted that the film "falters" a bit in the third act. Even the film's scary scenes aren't as dark as other superhero films.
Not just a attractive woman in a sexy outfit, Wonder Woman stands for what's right and means more to comic book fans, women, and what our society should be doing across gender lines than many might realize.
The performances sound like they're top notch.
Gadot admits it was a struggle at times though - especially given the sheer physicality of the role and the demanding action scenes.
The initial Twitter reactions from those lucky few who watched Wonder Woman have got fans curious to know the factors that made the female superhero a huge hit among critics. Gadot and Pine have incredible chemistry and banter, and I loved every bit of the film that featured them working together to leave Themyscira, visit London, and fight through enemy lines. Never prone to stewing in solitude, and taking more notes from Richard Donner than from Christopher Nolan, Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman' provides a welcome respite from DC's house style of grim darkness - boisterous, earnest, sometimes sloppy, yet consistently entertaining - with star Gal Gadot proving an inspired choice for this avatar of truth, justice and the Amazonian way".
But what's more important is that critics are absolutely loving the new movie, which a lot of people didn't expect.. The film feels obliged to give Pine his own equally heroic story arc.
"Every day seemed like a challenge because it was such a big and complicated movie".
Wonder Woman flies into theaters (without her trusty jet) on June 2, 2017.
