While the device is official, we are yet to know about the price and availability of the LG V30.
Pricing for the premium-priced new phone models were not immediately disclosed by LG.
The display, as mentioned, is OLED, specifically a 6in P-OLED edge-to-edge affair with an 18:9 aspect ratio that covers virtually the entire front fascia, as is the current trend; in fact 82% of the phone's face is display. The volume rockers are placed on the left-hand edge, while the SIM slot is situated on the right-hand edge of the smartphone.
The device can also be unlocked using facial recognition, a feature Samsung already uses on its flagship phones. Powered by the ESS Sabre ES9218P digital-to-analog converter, LG's audio system can rival dedicated portable music players, and it marks the diametric opposite to Apple's "go wireless or go home" approach to portable audio.
There's also no secondary screen on the V30, which previously sat above the main display and was one the V20's most iconic features. It also does away with LG's secondary display on the front, which was a big feature on the LG V10 and LG V20. There is also a new Floating Bar on the V30 for quick access to apps.
The V30 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform to support Daydream, Google's platform for mobile VR. No worries, a Plus version will likely cater to multitasking maniacs, also upgrading the base 64GB internal storage to 128 gigs.
LG V30 runs on Android 7 Nougat with LG UX 6.0+.
LG claims that V30 is the first global smartphone to support MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) technology that allows for the streaming of high-resolution audio.
The LG V30 comes with a bezel-less and all-display design. Backing the device is a 3300mAh non-removable battery.
The LG V30 features a headphone jack and the audio output from the smartphone sounds pretty good with the Quad DAC and B&O (Bang & Olufsen) Play branded speakers. The display has a resolution of QHD+ that takes it to 2880x1440p and making a pixel density of 538ppi.
The handset will boast IP68 water and dust resistance so you could drop the V30 in water up to 1.5m deep and it would just fine. It can survive in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes or less. One can say "Ok Google, take a romantic Cine Video" to activate Cine Video preset to Romantic.
Even during our brief hands-on time with the handset at IFA, we were able to appreciate the wider capture, with the dual camera sensor capable of capturing nearly panoramic stills. Moreover, the lens that the phone comes with is not a plastic lens but a glass lens, which LG calls a Crystal Clear lens. For selfies, there is a 5MP front facing camera too.
The camera itself also may prove to be exceptional. While the 3,300mAh battery supports both wired and wireless charging.
On the outside, the V30 comes with a "minimalist" design, much like the G6, consisting of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and metal, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Even if the dimensions of LG V30 (151.7 x 75.4 x 7.6mm) are larger than dimensions of LG G6 (148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9mm), LG V30 is thinner and weighs less with 158g of weight.
