Read on below for the full recap and spoilers on the premiere episode of the show.
It was revealed that the series begins on the 2016 presidential election night.
For those who frequently embrace third-tier horror films, or otherwise productions that are so bad they become awesome, the series gets better every year and has reached an impressive zenith.
Reliving election night: The premiere is triggering for those whose election night expectations were shattered by Trump's win.
Despite being dismissed as some "empowered 4chan guy" residing in his parents' basement, Kai is actually a much bigger threat. Just as he did then, Twisty appears with his bag, killing the man on the spot. The girl runs away and finds herself in Twisty's hideout. She freaks out, runs to her auto and calls her wife in a panic about how they're trying to kill her. That's not to say the reemergence of Twisty during that grotesque comic book sequence in the premiere didn't have us reaching for the covers (and a puke bucket). He's obviously targeting Ally for a reason we haven't learned. unless he's so offended she voted for Jill Stein he decides to sic his insane clown posse on her, in which case, who's the snowflake now? Winter claims that he's being "imaginative", and that in fact they only went outside after the police had arrived. The board urges Kai to expand his horizons and he appears to make a threat in response.
Cut to a few weeks later, and Ally is not doing well. Actor Cheyenne Jackson plays her psychiatrist Dr. Rudy Vincent. Her relationship with Ivy is growing strained.
He prescribes her a couple minor medications, and we exit the scene acknowledging their friendship. Kai is an extremist, who is thrilled with Trump's win, and can't wait to start making America great again. The supermarket is empty as Ally pushes her cart around the aisles. "But as much as I hate him, I didn't trust her". And she's having a meltdown. Instead, it's more about how Americans were so at one another's throats in the aftermath of the election, something that likely would have been true even if Hillary Clinton had won.
As viewers try to figure out what she's talking about, Ally pulls Ivy aside and they stop walking. When she's interviewing with Ally and Ivy, she loves them. She hits the gas and crashes quickly, causing the airbag to deploy. There are news broadcasts discussing Clinton's emails and Trump proponents chanting his name.
When they return from their date to a crime scene on their street, Ally and Ivy panic. At first the boy is uncomfortable with the videos until Winter explains that it is like getting a vaccination. As former real estate mogul and reality TV star Donald Trump was elected president over the expected victor Hillary Clinton, dozens of media talking heads lost their heads and liberals took to Twitter to express their fear.
Interestingly, the late Mr. Chang is the same man who told Kai Anderson to buzz off at the town meeting. Terrified that something disgusting has happened to their son, they're in a frenzy but eventually find him and Winter. Meanwhile, the incident is being recorded. Ally exclaims. "I tried, you know that I did".
It doesn't help that this has all happened after Ally admits she has not been taking the medicine that her doctor prescribed to help her anxiety. Did these murderous clowns really kill the Changs next door? But at the end of the episode, Ally's son Oz also sees the clowns as they murder the Chang family. The couple chooses to believe babysitter Winter.
However, Ally is not the only one who sees these clowns.
