Apple's third watch features the ability to connect itself to the internet, but it's not living up to it is specifications.
"On more than one occasion, I detached myself from the phone, traveled blocks away from my home or office, and watched the Watch struggle to connect to LTE".
The Apple Watch Series 3 goes on sale on Friday with pre-orders open now. But the Series 3 without the LTE connection ($329) is probably a good option if your main draw to the watch wasn't the built-in cellular connection.
By adding a new dual-core processor, Apple Watch can now also use Siri. I checked my schedule, asked Siri questions and got verbal answers, checked emailsm, and sent and received texts. After launch, it was discovered that holding the phone "wrong" would cause the antennas to stop working, dropping a call.
You've ostensibly already got a phone that does everything, and more, that the LTE-enabled watch model can do.
"A cellular device is, sometimes literally, a lifeline". This means that owners will be able to leave their iPhone behind and make and receive calls directly on the Apple Watch. Apple's promised 18 hours of battery life includes about four hours of such use. Specifically, of the Series 3 model with an LTE connection.
The Series 3 will be available in two connectivity options - GPS and GPS + Cellular. The price for the cellular-connected model starts at $399, plus a $10 per month wireless plan from one of the major carriers. But once you get used to having your phone with you at all times, you get used to feeling that if anyone needs you, they can get you.
"After testing the cellular watch for a week, I found it to be an excellent smart watch that is a significant improvement over the first Apple Watch, which was slow, confusing to use and deeply flawed".
Lauren Goode from the Verge also had issues with the Apple Watch Series 3's connection, and saw the device's battery drain fast. The company is investigating the issue and will likely come out with a fix in a future software update.
But Apple hasn't commented on the myriad other issues reviewers had with the Series 3.
With no hint of when the fix will be issued, this is something that's surely going to be a concern for anyone who has placed an order and is now waiting for their new Apple Watch to arrive.
