"Our game has long provided a powerful platform for dialogue and positive change in many communities throughout our nation". If Davis is held out, Detroit's lackluster options to start at middle linebacker are Nick Bellore, rookie Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Steve Longa. One of the biggest things to talk about is the controversial play at the end of the contest.
With NFL players "taking a knee" Sunday to protest both racial injustice and Donald Trump's recent comments aimed at the protests, singer Rico LaVelle supported the #TakeAKnee demonstration by kneeling during his performance of the National Anthem before the Detroit Lions game. The first, 27-24, in September, 1984 and the second, 31-28, in September, 1994. Sunday the team will face its toughest test of the young National Football League season, a matchup against the defending conference champion Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta hit the under in its first road game, a 23-17 win at Chicago. The following week, the Lions laid an egg, falling to an inferior St. Louis Rams team, 21-14. These teams are going to give the Falcons their best shot this season. "Our guys are making some big-time plays, so just going down there, executing, and just trusting the plays and going out there and running them".
Falcons: Atlanta was without three starters: defensive end Vic Beasley (hamstring), defensive end Courtney Upshaw (knee/ankle) and Ryan Schraeder (concussion). It's not the first time that's happened, unfortunately. We'll find out against Detroit. Matt Ryan has not let his MVP trophy gather dust and will no doubt bring the heat with the rest of the offense. Even the slightest bit of hesitation on anyone's part in Detroit's offense would have resulted in failure to line up in time. Julio Jones was his favorite target, as he should be, catching five balls for 108 yards. No terms have been released yet, but the Lions have decided Caldwell is their man for the foreseeable future. And then after watching a few times I thought it could go either way. They've tried to take some pressure off their own signal-caller, however, and an improved ground game has made things easier for Matthew Stafford.
Last week Stafford's numbers weren't gaudy. Ryan passed for two touchdowns and almost 300 yards. When all hope seemed lost, the defense continued to keep Detroit in the game. Detroit is susceptible to a good pass rush and Atlanta is without its top pass rusher. "Not knowing the rule is kind of, 'Ah, that sucks.' But I mean, the rules are the rules". I wouldn't be surprised if someone put a bug in Terry Pegula's ear about that this week as the Bills head to Atlanta's brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which carried an estimated price tag of $1.6 billion ... or $200 million more than Pegula paid for the entire Bills franchise.
