"I don't know if I'd call it a benefit", he said, via the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Michael Gehlken. I just had thoughts like that last night. "Coming into the year you all were telling us how good we were. Wish I would have scored". Terrance West rushed for 13 yards before being carried off the field, he injured his calf and did not return. But he's certainly looked much better over his past two games (nine catches for 188 yards and a touchdown).
When Del Rio opted to punt on fourth-and-3 from the Ravens 44 with about 9 minutes left and Oakland down 10, the team's best hope for a comeback had been extinguished. "You can see it on his face, when he starts getting involved, how much he gets revved up and how much it helps our offense".
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, center, walks with quarterback EJ Manuel (3) and quarterback Connor Cook before an NFL football game between the Raiders and the Baltimore Ravens in Oakland, Calif., Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017. The 2-0 start had Raiders fans already thinking about the postseason, but the team slipped against the Washington Redskins in Week 3 and then lost to the Denver Broncos in Week 4.
"It's a big shock", running back Jalen Richard admitted. It's like a bad shock. To the credit of Joe Flacco, Marty Mornhinweg, and the entire offense, things got back on track.
In his last two games, Flacco has thrown just one touchdown pass and four interceptions. Last week in relief of Carr, Manuel completed 11 of 17 passes for 106 yards against Denver. That cut the Ravens lead to 21-10. He also was picked off once and sacked once as the Raiders managed just one field goal in the four drives Manuel led. Flacco was 19-of-26 for 222 yards, and Wallace caught three passes for 133 yards.
The Raiders defense got beat time and again on third down, and rarely kept the Ravens off the scoreboard.
"Pretty disappointing", a terse Jack Del Rio said after his club's 30-17 defeat. "It's on us as players, coaches everybody from the top down to get this run game going. He is definitely going to run the same offense", Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said.
Flacco didn't quite look himself in the first quarter of the season, which wasn't surprising considering he missed all of training camp and the entire preseason with a back injury. The Ravens marched down the field for a 15-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a Javorious Allen touchdown punch-in.
